Outreach Ministry

Crestwood’s Local Outreach Ministry Team provides an opportunity to put our faith into action within our local community. The ministry team meets monthly to distribute financial assistance to charitable organizations, organize volunteer opportunities, and develop supportive relationships with social service providers in Lexington.

One of the major local outreach activities of Crestwood Church is our annual Habitat for Humanity build in which Crestwood partners with other Disciple Churches in the Lexington community to provide financial assistance and physical labor toward building a home for a family who otherwise wouldn’t have one. The spring of 2008 saw the construction of the Disciple’s 25th habitat house.

In 2007, Local Outreach distributed more than $24,000 to a variety of local organizations and events. 2007 also marked our first year of involvement with Room in the Inn, a program designed to provide seasonal, temporary shelter and hospitality to homeless individuals in Lexington. In 2008-2009, Local Outreach will be expanding Crestwood’s service to Room in the Inn by hosting overnight guests twice per month from November to March. Other 2008 projects have included:

These and other projects have provided incredible opportunities for the spiritual growth of participants, and the Local Outreach Ministry Team encourages all Crestwood members and visitors to get involved. A list of current volunteer-oriented activities and events are listed under the “News/Events” page.

Outreach at Crestwood is about seeking ways to respond to our brothers and sisters in need.  We believe that God has called us to reach out to each other and we are striving to do that in the best ways that we can.
